A Note from NewBridge CEO, Michelle Borden

Monday, July 20, 2020

Dear Friends,

Amongst all of the angst people are feeling with the efforts to respond to the COVID-19 emergency, we must also remember the need for change in our society to address social justice.  It never hurts to re-state the position that NewBridge has regarding our commitment to social justice, Black Lives Matter is a concern for us all.

While there is no single way to address social justice, we can be engaged in efforts to find effective solutions.  Eight minutes and 46 seconds of silence at noon today is an opportunity to express support and to contemplate what we can each do to improve our society’s efforts to find solutions so that Black Lives Matter and social justice is the way of our society.  Please know that NewBridge remains firmly committed to nondiscrimination in our delivery of services to individuals and communities, and in our hiring and governance policies and practices.  NewBridge is committed to being available and open to all people and we strive to be a positive force helping people move forward through counseling, education and housing.

This link will bring you to the website of a coalition of organizations, unions, and advocates who are pushing for change.  While I can’t endorse a “walk out” considering the type of work we do where we hope that our actions address social justice, and that we seek opportunities for improvement, I can support the idea of taking a moment of silence in support of the Black Lives Matter initiatives:

8 minutes and 46 seconds.  Noon today.
