Helping people move forward.
PEQUANNOCK, NJ – April 17, 2012 – Recognizing NewBridge Services’ expertise in children’s prevention services, Wyndham Worldwide has awarded the nonprofit community organization $25,000 to provide desperately needed programming in middle schools.
“Wyndham is committed to children’s health and wellness, and that includes giving them the tools to build resiliency, especially during the middle school years,” said Mary Falvey, Wyndham’s executive vice president and chief human resources officer. “We are proud to support NewBridge, which has a track record of empowering children to make good decisions throughout their lives.”
For nearly 50 years, NewBridge Services has been a premier provider of health-related services and education programs. NewBridge has been working in schools for 25 years, each year teaching thousands of children – from preschoolers to high school students – how to manage stress, cope with challenges and build resiliency and self-esteem.
“Children are under enormous pressure, in and outside school, and without intervention, they are at risk of choosing unhealthy ways to cope,” said NewBridge Chief Executive Officer Robert L. Parker. “Not knowing how to deal with pressure can lead to alcohol and drug abuse, violence and, in some cases, suicide.”
NewBridge addresses a variety of topics in the middle schools, including drug and alcohol resistance, conflict resolution and overcoming peer pressure, and its programs on suicide prevention and anti-bullying are in growing demand. NewBridge was an early responder to cyberbullying, which has been fed by the explosion in electronic devices and social media sites. Last year alone, NewBridge prevention programs reached more than 2,500 middle school students.
Despite school districts’ shrinking budgets for prevention programs, NewBridge continues to provide them because the need is so great. Wyndham’s grant will allow NewBridge to reach more than 800 middle school students. “NewBridge is grateful to Wyndham Worldwide for its commitment to helping children attain the tools they need to safely navigate their world,” Parker said.
