Celebrating Family Caregivers Month with Free Event on Nov. 5

Tuesday, October 20, 2020

Family Caregivers Month event on Nov. 5In honor of National Family Caregivers Month, seniors and caregivers are invited to enjoy an hour of movement to music when they register for a FREE Nov. 5 Seniors in Motion session. NewBridge Services’ Tame the Pain program is sponsoring the virtual class, which begins at 2 p.m.

Older adults and their caregivers will discover how rhythm and body movement promote health. Seniors in Motion participants will warm up to fun, familiar music. Dance will get bigger and freer as they become more comfortable. Dance movements can be modified to accommodate each participant’s physical ability.

Know the lyrics? Sing along! Singing releases emotions and eases pain. Participants will learn how to bring mindfulness and awareness to movement, and how use breath to calm the mind. The session ends with a body and mind cool-down.

NewBridge has teamed up with LIFE Center Stage and Syzygy Dance Project to offer the program. LIFE Center Stage provides programs through the expressive arts to revitalize community engagement, socialization, and generate creative cooperation for individual and community growth. Syzygy Dance Project is a nonprofit that transforms lives through dance.

Older adults take more prescriptions and over-the-counter medications than any other age group and are most vulnerable for medication misuse. Nearly 1 in 5 are affected by the combined misuse of alcohol and medication. Tame the Pain helps older adults understand the risks of prescription opioids and learn alternative pain management options. Tame the Pain is funded by a grant from the New Jersey Department of Human Services.
