We’re going to take a trip to a peaceful place in your imagination.
Sit comfortably. Gently close your eyes, or lower your gaze, if you prefer.
Now breathe in slowly through your nose, filling your belly with air. Exhale slowly.
Again, take a nice slow inhale, inflating your stomach. Slowly exhale. Imagine that with each exhale, stress is leaving your body. You are becoming more relaxed with each breath.
Are you feeling softer?
See yourself in a thick woods. Colorful birds sing as they flit from tree to tree overhead. Squirrels chase each other, rustling dried leaves and sticks on the ground. Take in a breath of that moist, earthy air.
You follow the trail to a waterfall cascading down rocks. You marvel at the water’s power, noisily crashing into a deep pool.
The water rejoins a stream. It’s so clear that you can see the stones lining the bottom.
You decide to follow the stream. It leads you to a meadow, covered in wildflowers. You feel a cushiness underfoot: you’re walking on thick green grass.
You continue walking, and arrive at a reclining chair made of soft white feathers. You sit on the lounge chair and feel its soothing lightness.
A breeze gently lifts the chair, and you rise. You float up and up, until you can see a mountaintop lake. The still water is aqua green.
There’s a small island in the middle of the lake. The chair gently lands in a clearing on the shore.
You breathe the fresh air. You look toward the sun, which is sinking toward the horizon. In the east, a full moon is coming into view. You notice that sunbeams and moonbeams are crossing the lake. They’re converging at you.
The gold and silver beams intertwine as they enter the top of your head. The soothing light moves into your neck, and shoulders.
You feel a lightness moving down your arms. It reaches your hands. From your shoulders, the light moves into your chest, and makes a connection with your heart. You feel it in your stomach, then your hips. The light moves down your legs, all the way to your feet, all the way to your toes.
A breeze picks up, and the chair again lifts. The gentle air feels wonderful on your skin. You look down as the island and lake grow smaller. The light in the sky is magnificent. You take a mental photo of this magical place.
Soon, the chair is landing softly back in the meadow. You take a deep, nourishing inhale, then slowly release it. From your head to your toes, you feel relaxed. You smile, knowing you can return to this place anytime you like.
When you’re ready, allow yourself to slowly come back into your body.
