Join us April 19 for NewBridge Services’ Legacy of Hope Gala and you’ll hear 77-year-old Rose D. describe the challenges of caring for her sick husband, and how NewBridge has helped her manage.
As her husband’s health deteriorated, Rose D. found herself struggling with the physical demands and emotional impact of caring for him alone.
A devastating woodcutting accident and a stroke followed by the serious complications from diabetes and Parkinson’s disease left her husband, Gene, with little mobility, vision loss in one eye, and depression.
“I didn’t have family to help, I was on my own,” the 77-year-old said. Then Rose learned about NewBridge Senior Assistance for Independent Living (SAIL), a free program of NewBridge Services that connects Morris County residents age 60 and over with community services.
NewBridge SAIL Director Claudia Mattson helped Rose arrange for a home health aide for her 85-year-old husband several days a week, and for a nurse to visit weekly. Mattson helped them both enroll in NewBridge@Home, a weekly in-home counseling program for homebound seniors. When Rose became ill last fall, Mattson arranged for a home health aide to tend to her once a week too.
“NewBridge has been like family,” the longtime Morris County resident said. “I don’t know where I’d be without them, I really don’t.” Rose has recommended NewBridge SAIL to others who face the challenges of aging at home.
“I can’t begin to tell you how happy and honored — I feel honored! — to be a part of NewBridge,” she said.
That’s the power of NewBridge. Come hear for yourself at NewBridge’s Legacy of Hope Gala at The Legacy Castle, a palatial new venue in Pequannock Township. The night’s festivities start at 6 p.m. and include dinner and dancing, silent and live auctions, a wine raffle, an open bar, and more!
